Why Writers’ Write

Posted 2 CommentsPosted in Interviews, Writers' Words

Here is why this writer writes,

“I want to write because I have the urge to excel in one medium of translation and expression of life.
I can’t be satisfied with the colossal job of merely living. Oh, no, I must order life in sonnets and sestina and give a verbal reflector for my 60-watt lighted head.” – Sylvia Plath, one of the greatest poets of all time told the world.

Books tell us a lot about a writer's mindset. Some writers write about love, others address about war. While some create a chronological detail of the life and whereabouts of a fictional character, other writers who discuss the struggles and inspirations of a real human being in a biography. Some talk about themselves in an autobiography. There are some authors who write in prose and there are the opposite lot like to rhyme things up in a poetry.

To understand a book, it is crucial to understand what sparked the idea in the mind of the author. The famous, George Orwell said,
When I sit down to write a book, I do not say to myself, ‘I am going to produce a work of art.’ I write it because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, and my first concern is to get a hearing.” It was perhaps this thought that led him to write his masterpiece 'The Animal Farm'.

We can have several questions about a writer's approach to a certain situation they describe in their work. Before giving out a verdict on the labors of creativity, we need to rationalize the author's creative schemes. It would serve us good if we comprehend what triggered a certain treatment to a certain incident in their creation.

Hear what the beautiful author of 'Man Walks Into a Room' has to say,
“Why does one begin to write? Because she feels misunderstood, I guess. Because it never comes out clearly enough when she tries to speak. Because she wants to rephrase the world, to take it in and give it back again differently, so that everything- is used and nothing is lost. Because it’s something to do to pass the time until she is old enough to experience the things she writes about.” – Nicole Krauss

This world has millions of books printed every year.  Why do more scholars decide to share their views valiantly with the world? We can only appreciate Authors if we know their motives and convictions of spending hours and hours writing for the world.

Why do writers' write? What are the Writers' Words?

The best person to answer these questions is the writer himself!

“I believe there is hope for us all, even amid the suffering – and maybe even inside the suffering. And that’s why I write fiction, probably. It’s my attempt to keep that fragile strand of radical hope, to build a fire in the darkness.”
